The Mammalian Neurogenesis Gene Ontology was established by Gerd Kempermann and Rupert Overall.

Manuscript pre-screening for versions 3.0 and 3.1 has been performed by many members of the Kempermann lab.
The current database has been designed and built by Rupert Overall.
The originally released database was built by Maciej Paszkowski-Rogacz.


Version history
Below is a list of versions of the MANGO web service with a description of the changes associated with each release. We have also made an archived database available as a comma-delimited text flatfile to allow reproduction of older analyses.

Version 3.2 (June 2019)
Current version. A further 203 manuscripts have been annotated to bring the total to 510 (many thousands more have been checked and discarded as not having relevant information). We have added 680 statements including information on an additional 138 genes to bing the total number of annotated genes to 397.

Version 3.1 (June 2014)
An additional 104 manuscripts have been annotated. This has resulted in stronger support for existing genes and the inclusion of 37 new genes to the database. In addition, several new features have been added:
  • An archive (this page) is now available for each version of the database.
  • An option ‘Include negative results’ allows filtering of negative results (absent expression in a particular cell type or no change in a process, details on the Tutorial page).

Version 3.0 (June 2013)
A major redesign of the website and server code. As well as a new look, a streamlined curation back-end has been integrated with the main MANGO database. This has made the service easier to maintain and update.

The release associated with the initial publication (Overall et al., 2012).
